TAG Heuer's Racer smartphone wants to be as ostentatious and flashy as your supercar (video)

TAG Heurer's Racer smartphone teased
Previous endeavors in the stratospheric and ultra-high end phone market have resulted in fanciful hardware made out of exotic materials, often marred by perplexingly outdated innards. If you believe TAG Heuer's latest marketing hyperbole, that's set to change with its upcoming Racer smartphone. Just like its bespoke contemporaries, there's a flashy (and arguably gaudy) carbon fibre and titanium exterior, but underneath that veil is a "high speed" processor and the "latest Android software." So, quad-core silicon and Ice Cream Sandwich, right? Two and a half minutes of flamboyant renders await alongside some very brief PR after the break.

Fujifilm to fix 'blooming issue' on X10 and X-S1 cameras

Fujifilm to fix 'blooming issue' on X10 and X-S1 cameras
Have shots of bright highlights from your retro X10 or X-S1 been subject to a white disc or blooming effect? A quick perusal of enthusiast photography website DPReview reveals you're not alone, with Fujifilm now acknowledging the issue and promising two fixes. The first phase begins on March 21st, when the company will issue updated firmware for the X10 that recognizes problematic bloom-inducing scenarios, and will compensate by increasing ISO in EXR mode to diminish it. That'll pacify owners until late May, when the company says a redesigned sensor for the duo of digital shooters will become available. It's unclear if the company will reach out to owners of both cams about the retrofit, or if only those who inquire will be privy to the updated hardware. As to why the cameras even shipped this way, the company says its engineers concluded both were working within "prescribed tolerances." Either way, owners should call their local authorized Fujifilm service center for more details.

[Thanks, Llov]

Dish buys TerreStar and DBSD, inches towards LTE future

DishDBSD North America and TerreStar Networks probably aren't the first two companies you think of when talking about cutting edge broadband, but they're integral to Dish Network's LTE plans. Both companies were in dire straights, with TerreStar declaring bankruptcy in 2010 and DBSD filing for Chapter 11 in 2009. But, Dish doesn't want them for their customer base or portfolio of services -- it wants their spectrum. The FCC approved the transfer of the spectrum last week, but did not grant the company a waiver to immediately start using its new radio real estate to start broadcasting LTE signals. Still, it was a good enough sign for the satellite company, which completed the purchase of the two properties. Now it just has to put those plans to expand into broadband and cellphone service into action.

Pink Goop Beef Is Invading School Lunches: USDA Buys 7 Million Pounds of the Slime to Feed Kids [Food]

Remember our old friend pink goop? The crap notoriously in chicken nuggets and the filth that McDonald's famously stopped using a month ago? Well, it's rearing its ugly pink head again and this time it's going after children. That's right, the USDA has plans to buy 7 million pounds of pink goop beef for our national school lunch program More »

Samsung patents phone skins, mood swings, Amazon

Samsung patents phone skins
See that crazy faceplate with matching wallpaper that sells for two-a-penny on Amazon? Well, Samsung wants to patent something even worse. It's so bad we had to hide it away after the break. (Honestly, don't look at it -- unlike the USPTO, you won't get paid for your trouble.) At first we believed the hype that it was some kind of wild Super-OLED-lenticular-transparent-flexible-display concept for smartphones, but now we're not so sure. The patent application simply refers to a printed "film layer" stuck onto a smartphone's case, which aligns with images on the display and gives the impression of a seamless all-over skin. Refuse to believe that anyone would try to claim exclusive rights over something so old and so commonplace? Go on then, have a gander.

Create beautiful, unique photo collages with Fuzel for iPhone

There's a plethora of photo collage apps in the App Store, but Fuzel is one of the best one's I've ever come across. One of its defining features is that you can design your own layouts by placing the separators precisely where you want. It also has a gorgeous design.

Next wave of Galaxy S II ICS updates begins March 19

Galaxy S II

If you weren't lucky enough to be part of the initial roll-out of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the Samsung Galaxy S II, then you shouldn't have too long to wait. The long-awaited update started pushing out to Galaxy S II owners in Poland, Hungary, Sweden, and Korea this morning, and more European countries should start to see it from next Monday, March 19.

The news comes from Samsung by way of British tech site Pocket-Lint, and the good news for anyone in the UK is that it'll apparently be a part of this second wave of countries. Of course, if you're not afraid to tinker with your device, you could always just change your CSC code and update through ODIN. (If you don't know what any of that means, it's probably just best to wait for the OTA.)
