Mobile World Congress day one wrap-up

Android Central

We grabbed a few hours sleep after yesterdays Android landslide, and got right back into full swing in Barcelona for the first official day of Mobile World Congress 2012. While all day yesterday was spent bouncing from one venue to the next to see official press events, we got to spend a good part of the day today doing what's coolest about going to a big show like MWC -- talk one-on-one to vendors, developers, and all manner of PR people. The boys put miles on their shoe leather cruising the show floor and meeting with the exhibitors, and we get the benefit of hearing it all without the sore feet.

Hit the break, let's see what went down today.

How to get QuickBooks for iPad Working

QuickBooks is a software solution set used to manage the needs of a business including inventory, sales, payroll and pretty much about everything that a small business’ accounting requires. Its software solutions cater to the various needs of a wide range of industries and markets. The Regular QuickBooks program, which has been the staple program for many QuickBooks users, does not work with the iPad. Fortunately, a mobile version of QuickBooks for iPad named QuickBooks Mobile can now be downloaded [...]

Powis iCase iPad Case Review

I’m always impressed with companies that are flexible in a changing environment. A company who can adapt to this evolving landscape is a healthier company. Powis makes bookbinding and collating equipment for the corporate market. As things have been moving into the digital realm, Powis has smartly taken some of that book binding knowledge and [...]

Office Wars

officewarsOffice represents an increasingly minor amount of screen time in my computing experience, while social computing is transitioning much of that work to stream-based objects. Google’s forced march of Google + data into its social experience may be a good long term move for the search company, but it comes at the cost of meshing with Apple’s accelerated Twitter interoperability. As Chatter builds out support for Customer Groups across Salesforce business customers and their partners, Twitter’s direct messages and @mention authority model are being extended in this new form of collaborative communication.

AMD rolls out two new Bulldozer chips, cuts price of the FX-8120 to celebrate

Like Hugh Hefner (probably), AMD took a good hard look at its lineup this week and decided it was high time to add a pair of models. Two new Bulldozer-powered FX CPUs will join the pantheon of world-record beating chips in the company's constant fight against the forces of Intel. The quad-core FX-4170 has a 4.2GHz CPU with 4.3GHz Turbo mode (for more on AMD's Bulldozer architecture, see here) while the six-core FX-6200 has a 3.8GHz base clock and a 4.1GHz Turbo mode. Availability will vary by region as the company shuttles out the new silicon on a rolling timeline, but we'd start keeping our eyes peeled next time you're down the shops. To celebrate, AMD is hacking down the price of the top-end FX-8150 from $245 to $185 and you should see a similar price drop from outlets filter through shortly. After the break we've got all the stats we were able to type about these slices of silicon before our palms got sweaty.

Mozilla partners with Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom to further Boot to Gecko project

Boot to Gecko
So far, we have seen neither hide nor hair of that rumored LG-built Boot to Gecko developer device. Mozilla hasn't exactly been keeping quiet, though. The company announced a pair of partners on the web standards-based mobile OS: Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom. The German parent company of T-Mobile will be lending members of its Innovation Labs team to the development of the project. Telefónica will be bringing hardware to the equation. It revealed plans to build "open web devices" based on B2G for release this year. Qualcomm and Adobe are also throwing their weight behind the HTML5 platform. Before the week is through we should be able to scrounge up a few more details and spend some hands-on time with the OS.

Scosche flipCHARGE rogue Emergency Backup Battery & Charger for iPod and iPhone Review

Lots of people rely on cellphones now, and many, like my family and me, have only cellphones.  Your phone is useless without a charge, and luckily, there are a variety of backup batteries available to keep them charged up.  If you don’t want to add a case with a backup battery, then you’re probably stuck [...]

Line Grapefruit is a tricky Flash "path" game

linegrapefruit
Okay, see that snaking line coming in from the right on the screenshot? That's you. And see those large round circles? Those are supposedly grapefruits, only they won't sit still - they keep moving up and down and cutting across your path. And if you touch one, you die!

That's what you have to deal with in Line Grapefruit. But that's not all - you're also on a time limit. In fact, you have a very limited amount of time to make it through the "path" (for lack of a better word). You need to snake your way through the winding trail without touching anything. The good news is that a grapefruit only kills you if it touches the end of the line - once you've made it past the grapefruit, nothing happens if it crosses the path you've made.

This is not an easy game, but it's quite unique - I can't recall seeing another game quite like it.
