Will Tablets Revolutionize TV?

The adoption of tablets has reached critical mass in the U.S., according to comScore. In fact, one in every four smartphone owners also used a tablet during the three-month period ending April 2012. What stands out most about this particular study, though, is the link it makes between TV and online video content and the growth of tablets.

New Ebook Player? UK Supermarket Giant Sainsbury’s Buys HMV’s 64% Stake In Anobii For £1

anobiiA sudden, but perhaps unsurprising, bit of e-book M&A today in the UK: the music and entertainment company HMV is selling its 64 percent stake in e-book retailer Anobii to the supermarket chain Sainsbury's, for the princely sum of £1 ($1.55). The deal will give Sainsbury's a jump start into the e-book market as part of its stated strategy of becoming a bigger player in the digital media business. It has been gradually building this up since 2010, although without much fanfare: in November of that year it launched its Sainsbury's Entertainment brand; in October 2011 it bought online entertainment company Global Media Vault; and earlier this year it started its own music downloading service. It also gives Sainsbury's a window for international expansion: Anobii currently has 60,000 customers -- not just in the UK but internationally.

Euro 2012 Live Wallpaper lets you cheer on your team and play with balls!

If you're a fan of The Beautiful Game (that's soccer for you Americans), you've no doubt been taking in some of the action already coming out of EURO 2012. Poland and Ukraine are hosting this year, and if the first few games are an indicator we're going to see a lot of awesome football games over the next few weeks.

And thanks to the new Adidas Euro 2012 live wallpaper you can cheer on your favorite team right from your Android 2.2 or greater device by placing the national flag of one of the 16 qualifying countries onto the homescreen soccer field. You can also customize the halfway lines to reflect the host countries.

The best part of this live wallpaper? You get to have fun playing with balls! You can select to have from one to five "Tango 12" Match balls appear on the homescreen, which you can kick, tap and volley around. Check out the video above to see it in action. My words don't do it justice.

This Euro 2012 live wallpaper is free so jump on over to the Google Play store to grab it. And while you're waiting for it to download, be sure to leave us a comment and tell us who you're cheering for. I'm Polish/Ukrainian (50/50) by descent, but being engaged to an Italian (and seeing what happens when they lose) I'm cheering for Italy all the way!

Get your download on after the break.

Windows 8 App Store images leaked?

windows 8 app store
Windows 8 images continue to leak onto the Internet, despite Microsoft's wallpaper-based pleas to those with access to the early releases. Today's installment courtesy CNBeta shows the upcoming Windows App Store, which will likely feature prominently in Windows 8.

We've got our doubts about the authenticity of the image. In addition to showing several of the built-in games which already ship with Windows, Opera is listed -- and a competing browser seems like an odd inclusion this early on. Of course, with the browser ballot still in place in the EU for quite some time, Microsoft would probably need to include rivals like Opera and Firefox to stay out of trouble. We're also not sure why Clickgamer is shown beneath Angry Birds instead of Rovio -- the game's actual publisher.

It's still early, of course, so it's entirely possible that the Windows App Store image is genuine but merely using placeholder images and text for now. Anyone else thinking Windows Marketplace might be a more logical name? You know, to keep things consistent with Windows Phone and keep Apple's legal eagles at bay.

Apple’s Power Nap Is Basically Microsoft’s Windows SideShow/Connected Standby

_MGT3563Isn't Power Nap an awesome new feature of OS X? It is if you're a Mac user but to Windows users, it's old news. If you missed the news, Power Nap allows your Mac to keep up to date while in sleep mode. So emails are updated, things get synced to iCloud, system updates are pushed through and even TimeMachine backups are performed in a silent and power efficient manner.

Seagate Backup Plus hard drive: one-click backup with a social twist

Seagate Backup Plus portable hard drive oneclick backup with a social twist

Quick: what's more important? Your entire My Documents directory, or your Facebook / Flickr galleries? The answer seems fairly obvious, but for those too proud to admit it, Seagate's got a new hard drive that'll delicately handle both. The outfit's latest line of 2.5-inch mobile HDDs goes by the name Backup Plus, aiming to give consumers one-click backup and the ability to save and share your content on Facebook and Flickr. They'll work interchangeably with both Windows and Mac platforms, and they ship with a new Seagate Dashboard interface that makes all of that "one-click magic" possible. The company's proclaiming that these guys are the world's first external drives to "provide backup for content on social networks, such as Facebook and Flickr," with a single-click path to Save (download) and Share (upload) personal videos and photos. Backup Plus drives can be snagged in the US starting today, with Amazon, Best Buy and other reputable dealers offering 'em in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities for portable drives and 1TB to 4TB for Backup Plus Desk drives. Pricing and color details are spelled out in the presser just after the break.

Apple intros new iPad Smart Case: clever enough to cover both sides, priced at $50

Apple intros new iPad Smart Case, clever enough to cover both sides

And we're still not done. A new iPad case has managed to sneak onto the Apple Store's online shelves, and it'll protect your precious slab on both the back and front. The Smart Case appears to augment last year's Smart Cover with an additional (polyurethane hardshell) coating for the back of your iPad. Priced at just under $50, the case fits both second and third-generation iPads and will arrive in six different color options. And yes, you can still get that ever-pressing message engraved onto it too.
